This year’s Parking Permit Design Contest was a resounding success, receiving dozens of submissions from UTSA students looking to show their UTSA pride through their inspiring artwork. Campus Services has carefully reviewed all entries and is pleased to announce the winners. “All that was background to an urgency, in my mind, to help students literally vote, but also to take the temperature down on the vitriol and provide places and ways for people to think and talk across profound differences,” Olsen said. All donated bikes will be given to Pedal It Forward, a local nonprofit that will refurbish your bike and return it to the U of A campus to be gifted to a student in need. "Greenway urbanism proposes new forms of urban development organized around town walks, cycling trails and equestrian trails, rather than conventional street networks," Luoni said. We cordially invite you to witness firsthand the remarkable talent and dedication of our senior Product Design students.

In this project, we created the first open-source fashion brand manifesting an open community concept rather than a traditional corporation-controlled "pay to play" approach. If you're looking to pursue a creative path but not sure where to start, you’re in the right place. Get to know some of our remarkable students as they work toward turning their passions into their professions. We appreciate and welcome the diverse cultural practices that members infuse into our community. Not only does this diversity deepen everyone’s understanding of the world, but it also strengthens us as designers. The University of Texas at San Antonio is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service.
"This is an excellent course. It delivered so much more than I was expecting. The experience with MDL from the beginning was very impressive. They were attentive, helpful, and with excellent customer service compared to other Graphic Design courses that I was exploring at the time." Climate change is driving the need for changes in how inputs are converted to outputs to reduce harmful greenhouse gasses while saving energy and other costs. These changes need to be thoughtfully and rigorously designed, and design science can provide some of the foundations that connect design to environmental sustainability.

We collectively cast a broad net, so you’re likely to find people who share your interests. Likewise, students bring their diverse backgrounds and professional experiences to our programs. As a member of our graduate cohort, you’ll learn how to work effectively in a team by leveraging connected interests, sharing unique knowledge and skills, and benefiting from the group’s collective wisdom. In this track, students focus on development of creative design skills and the practice of strategic innovation methods that take a systems-level view, and that considers the business, technological and human aspects of any challenge. Students are prepared with visual design skills and the knowledge, theories and methods they’ll need to take on the types of unstructured problems that industry continually faces.
Coursework combines theory and practice and frequently focuses on social, technological, economic, environmental, and political concerns that exist in areas such as healthcare, education, transportation, and business. Archer and Mitra both plan to next pursue graduate degrees, while Catlett and Timm plan to begin their professional careers after graduation. In many parts of the world, resources such as clean water and reliable electricity are not available. How can designers navigate such environments to co-create artifacts that improve the living standards of such communities?
In rankings of design schools based on career outcomes, our graduate programs consistently come out on top. Our alumni acquire some of the most desirable positions in the field, with multinational companies, design firms, and nonprofits. Some of our alumni become design researchers and educators, and others start their own businesses.
Definitely spend time finding and contributing to communities that you share interests with. They helped me feel like part of something greater than myself, and gave me a much-needed break from the academics! The Master of Design (MDes) program requires nine core courses and three electives (see below) for a minimum of 38 credits for the degree.
If you’re looking to build on a strong foundation in design by studying the “big picture” aspect of designing for interactions, which involves communities, organizations, cultures, contexts, and systems, our MDes program can help you. Throughout the program, you’ll work with some of the brightest thinkers and most talented practitioners in the field, gaining exposure to approaches, ideas, and methods at the forefront of design. Studies rooted in communication, systems thinking, futuring, speculative design, design technology, ethics, and design research form the basis of the MDes. You’ll learn how to apply rigorous processes for documenting, analyzing, and understanding the past and present to propose more desirable systems and interactions for the future.
Recognizing that some of the most meaningful learning often happens during impromptu conversations, we encourage those interactions in a comfortable environment that facilitates healthy, enjoyable, and effective learning. The graduate suite also features wall-to-wall whiteboards, 50-inch video monitors, dynamic screen-sharing technologies, and teleconference abilities. The School of Design is composed of faculty, students, and staff who chose to relocate to Pittsburgh from around the world to live, work, and learn.
Students in the MS/MBA track complete the first three semesters of the MS degree curriculum at ArtCenter; then spend two semesters to complete an intensive version of the Drucker MBA program while continuing studio project work at ArtCenter. After graduating with the MBA degree, students complete their final semester of the MS degree program. The School of Design welcomes students who hold undergraduate degrees in a design-based field and have at least one year of professional experience to apply to our MDes program.
Our world faces increasingly complex, often unpredictable dilemmas of consequence to human lives and living environments, including rapid urbanization, climate change, and resource scarcity. The MDE program prepares innovators who operate both creatively and analytically, think strategically, and collaborate broadly. MDes students are expected to complete , a professional development requirement for the program. Requires students to engage in an experience outside of an MDes course or studio where they apply what they have learned in a broader context. Experience typically takes place in the summer between the Spring and Fall semesters and is uniquely defined to align with students’ interests and career goals. Through thesis project work and your choice of electives, craft a generalist degree in design for interaction, or develop a concentration in design for services or social innovation.
